Before going through a redesign of a website, it is important to understand the problems. Without a clear analysis of what does and does not work, it is possible to create the same problems that plague the current website design.
To do so, a user experience research report was conducted on the New Beginnings Family Academy website. The goal was to gain a deeper understanding of the website and how users navigate it to find information.
Before testing the usability of the website, personas and scenarios were created to help capture the types of users that frequent the website. This is done to understand who is coming to the website and for what purpose, which is important for undergoing a new design.
The user experience research report tested a variety of methods to understand the faults of the current design of the website and how to improve them. The research methods conducted include card sorting, usability testing, and more.
One important note to touch on is the design of the report itself. Previously, the report was filled with large images on each page. While that gave the pages a fun dynamic, the images took up a lot of room and no space for the information.
After taking a step back and receiving feedback, the design was replaced with one that gives a report a more sleek and professional look. The additional while space allows the information to breathe, and now the photos have a better use on the cover page.
